Busy Meeting

Lots of activity at our meeting last night. A small group have embarked on a cloth doll making course with Kathryn  and it was very exciting to make a start on our patterns and deciding what we would like our dolls to look like.

I think more new books may have to be purchased for even more inspiration.
Watch this space for developments over the coming months.

A second group tried hand spinning with Ann - lots of laughter ensued as hand and brain coordination was tested out.
Some chose to continue with individual stitching projects and we all enjoyed a welcome coffee/tea and catching up with news.

Images from the Archives

At last nights meeting we took a look at some of the many images from the Lancashire Archives in Preston following our visit in May.

Hopefully these will inspire some creative stitching.

Luminary exhibition at Gawthorpe Hall

A few members joined artist Serena Partridge for a workshop to produce some Girl Guiding themed penenats for the luminary exhibition at Gawthorple hall. The exhibition celebrates the life of Mis Rachel Shuttleworth and her connections and passions.

Serena has mounted the finished penants onto copper shim to stiffen them and the resulting penants make an impressive display

This opportunity also brought our first recognition as Seaside Stitchers

Workshop with Sue Stone

It was a full house for our first workshop of the new season and we were very pleased to welcome Sue Stone as our tutor.
We spent the day quietly hand stitching and exploring new ways of creating texture with our stitches.

Sue's work is inspirational and it was great to see the work close up and to see her marvellous sample books, which were works of art in themselves.

New beginnings

Monday night saw us launched as Seaside Stitchers with our new identity as an independent stitch group.
We have a full programme planned for the coming year and we were very happy to welcome one new member and one returning member to our meeting.
Not much stitching was in evidence on Monday as we were busy discussing all the details involved in setting up our new group.

It was great to see so many people there and the room was buzzing as everyone chatted and enjoyed the coffee and biscuits on offer!

Our first event is a super workshop on Saturday with the amazing Sue Stone. Sue has exhibited internationally and is currently chair of the 62 Textile Group.

We will be "Exploring Texture and Pattern in hand stitch" and the places have been snapped up with just one remaining as of today.

If you are not familiar with Sue's work you are in for a real treat!

Wordpool 2017

We were very happy to be involved in Wordpool 2017 in Stanley Park earlier this month.

This is a fantastic annual family event organised by Blackpool Libraries and run with the help of an army of volunteers.

This festival of the written word gets bigger and better every year - and once again we were blessed with a glorious sunny afternoon.
Kits for all ages had been prepared to stitch and take and these proved to be very popular.
Based on the theme of Animal Antics we we had a variety of cats, birds, fish and other animals to make and by the end of the event had almost run out of supplies.

t was great to see families enjoying the sunshine and concentrating on the stitching

Everyone seemed happy with the results and many of the children managed to finish their kit to take home

This is a great event and we hope to be involved again next year
